Reynolds and Washington Form Dynamic Duo Onscreen: Safe House Is An Instant Classic

Here's a great question; is there anything that Denzel Washington stars in that isn't good? Everything he does seems to turn to gold. He's one of the great actors of all time and quite honestly, he's one of the best actors ever; period. That being said, Washington teams up with Ryan Reynolds for Safe House. What follows from there is movie magic.

Reynolds and Washington are dynamic together on-screen and have great chemistry, which could be hard to imagine considering that Reynolds best work comes when he's in a comedy. Washington, however, is used to this kind of a role. He's the focal point of the plot, which is exactly where he belongs.

The film is one of those classic C.I.A. drama's that centers around deception and corruption. Washington plays Tobin Frost, C.I.A.'s most wanted. Frost is carrying information that could take the entire system down and his former employers and co-workers are looking to bring him down. Reynolds character, Matt Weston, gets drug into the situation by being the C.I.A. agent running the safe house that Frost is taken to.

From that point on, it's Weston's job to make sure that Frost is brought in the pay for his crimes and his betrayal to his country, but that isn't exactly what Weston imagined himself doing. Instead he wants to be transferred to where his girlfriend will eventually end up so that they can be together. Of course that doesn't work out that way.

The film has it's fair share of twists and turn and it's turns into a struggle between whether or not to cheer for Frost as he is the enemy and the so called "bad guy" of the film, but it's nearly impossible to root for him as he's trying get the truth exposed. Weston is the likable hero who wants to prove his worth and that he's capable of more responsibilities.

What makes this film worth watching is of course the acting. There was no doubt that Washington would carry this movie, but Reynolds plays his role with perfection. Reynolds nearly steals the show, but it's Washington's faithful demeanor that captures the audience. Many compared this role to the same role that won him the Academy Award for best actor in Training Day, but the roles are completely different. His role as Frost is a great role, but it doesn't match some of his other roles that he's known for.

Safe House is an exciting thriller that no doubt will entertain it's audiences and the acting is fantastic. This will be a great movie for years to come, just not exactly award worthy, but that doesn't mean that it isn't worth watching. This is an entertaining thrill ride that will have weight for a long time. If you're looking to be entertained, this movie is right up your alley.
